Abstract

Objectives: To determine the rate of recurrence, malignancy, metastasis and death after the distal radius by en bloc resection and reconstruction by non-vascularised proximal fibular autograft with distal radioulnar ligament reconstruction by palmaris longus tendon. Methods: We conducted a non-control intervention study, selected all 50 patients, aged 18 years and or older with giant cell tumors of the distal radius treated by en bloc resection and reconstruction by non-vascularised proximal fibular autograft with distal radioulnar ligament reconstruction by palmaris longus tendon at Faculty of Musculoskeletal Pathology of Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Trauma and Orthopedics from January 2010 to June 2020. Results:  The mean age of all the included patients was 33.4 ± 8.7 years, and 42% of female. There were 28% of patients with tumor size > 5cm, 4% pathological fractures before surgery, 100% radiographs at grade 3, 4% preoperative recurrence, 48% dominant hand affected. Average follow-up time after surgery was 51.9 ± 27.9 months. The results showed that the recurrence rate after surgery was 4% and there were no cases of malignancy, metastasis or death. Besides, the results found no relationship between age group, sex, postoperative recurrence, tumor size, pathological fracture, goiter and (p> 0.05). There was no relationship between age group, sex, preoperative recurrence, tumor calibrator, pathological fracture, dominant hand affected and recurrence after surgery (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The rate of recurrence after surgery is low, with no cases of malignancy, metastasis or death.
