Abstract

Objectives: Decribe clinical and magnetic resonance (MR) features of idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Subjects and methods: Longitudinal and retrospective study in 38 idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia patients with low-dose trigeminal nerve block with alcohol from January 2019 to July 2022. Results: In this study, more were males (female/male=1/1,71) and the mean age was 72 with 52,6% suffered trigeminal neuralgic pain on the right side, predominantly involving V2 (36,8%), V3 (31,6%) and a combination of both (18,4%) branches, 47,4% with typical TN. Pain relief lasted for a mean 5,3 years. Provocation of paroxysmal pain by various trigger manoeuvres was reported by 31 of the 38 patients. The most frequent manoeuvres were mechanical factors (34,2%).
