CHRONIC PAIN IN OLDER ADULTS WITH OSTEOPOROSIS

Abstract
Objective: To describe chronic pain related to osteoporosis in older patients with ostroporosis. Methods: Using a cross-sectional descriptive on 159 patients with osteoporosis aged ≥ 60 years old examined and treated at the National Geriatric Hospital. Subjects were diagnosed with osteoporosis by DEXA method based on WHO criteria in 2001. Results: The mean age of the group was 70.7 ± 7.6 (year). The prevalence of chronic pain related to osteoporosis in older people with osteoporosis was 39.6%. Characteristic of chronic pain related to osteoporosis: the most common pain site is the back (96.8%); Chronic pain is usually aching pain (79.4%) with moderate pain according to the VAS scale (4-6). Conclusion: Chronic pain related to osteoporosis is a common symptom in older adults with osteoporosis, so it is necessary to early detect, prevent and manage chronic pain to preserve and improve the quality of life for the elderly, especially those with osteoporosis
