CHRONIC PAIN IN OLDER PEOPLE WITH PRIMARY KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS

Abstract
Objectives: To describe the characteristics of chronic pain of knee and some related factors in older people with primary knee osteoarthritis. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 114 patients aged ³ 60 years old diagnosed with primary knee osteoarthritis according to the criteria of ACR 1991 being treated at the National Hospital of Geriatrics from April to August, 2022. Results: Mean age was 74.1±8.7, women accounted for 78.9%, 81.6% of patients had degenerative joint disease on both sides of the knee. The prevalence of chronic knee pain was found in 102 study subjects (89.5%). 59.8% of patients had mechanical pain; 68.6% of patients had knee pain lasting more than 6 months. The average pain score according to the VAS scale when active was 5.5±2.0 and at rest was 3.8±2.0. Conclusion: the proportion of older knee osteoarthritis patients with chronic knee pain accounted for 89.5%; female have a higher prevalence of knee chronic knee pain than male. There was no association between chronic knee pain and characteristics of: age, daily activity living (ADL), instrumental activity daily living (IADL) and duration of knee osteoarthritis.
