Abstract

Background: Lung cancer (LC) is one of the diseases with a high incidence and mortality rate.1 The early detection of the disease helps to improve the effectiveness of treatment for patients because it can prolonging the patient's survival time and reducing the cost of treatment.2 Using low-dose CT in lung cancer screening results in an early detection rate of lung cancer in patients. Objectives: To evaluate the compatibility of imaging characteristics of lung opacities on low-dose 128-slice computed tomography compared with standard-dose computed tomography. Subjects and methods: 31 patients were screened for cervical cancer by low-dose CT at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Results: The low-dose CT method has only one tenth of the dose to the patient compared to the standard-dose CT method, reducing 91.8% of the radiation dose. The detection rate of opacities of low-dose CT is 125 opacities/135 opacities of lung (93%). In terms of imaging characteristics, low-dose CT has high similarity with standard-dose CT scan. Conclusion: Low-dose CT has high value in early screening for lung cancer and reducing radiation dose for patients.
