Abstract

An anterior open bite (AOB) is a condition in which there is no vertical contact of the incisors in the central bite. AOB is one of the most difficult malocclusions to treat due to its high recurrence rate. With skeletel anchorage, the treatment of open anterior occlusion is achieved by the subsidence of the molars leading to counterclockwise rotation of the mandible upward. Our study was conducted to evaluate the effect of mini-plate in the treatment of class II malocclusion with open bite. Results: Most of the subjects were young people (12-29 years old) mostly female. All cases of treatment of class 2 malocclusion with open bite have complaints about the lack of aesthetics: protruding teeth, convex faces, gummy smiles… only 1 complaint affected chewing function. All subjects were treated with miniplate at the zygomatic Zygoma site. Follow-up results (17-34 months) showed that 100% of cases had aesthetic improvement after 6 months of treatment, and the effect of subsidence was also improved. Conclusion: Using mini-plate at the zygoma position is effective in reducing tooth depression in the treatment of class II malocclusion with open bite and improving facial aesthetics.
