SOME RELATED FACTORS WITH ACTIVITIESDAILY LIVING IN OLDER DIABETIC PATIENTS

Abstract

Background: The daily activities living impairmentis common and causes burden in older diabetic patients. Objectives: To investigate some related factors with activites daily living in older diabetic patients. Subjects and Methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted on diabetic patients aged 60 years olde or above at the Central Geriatric Hospital in 10 months. The activities daily living were evaluated by usingActivity Dailly Living – ADL, Instrument Activity Dailly Living – IADL. Socio-demographic, geratrics characteristics and diabetic related factors were recorded in the study. Results: a total of 354 diabetic patients was recruited in the study. The results showed some related factors with ADL impairments, including advanded age, rural area, low educational level, depression, history of fall, high risk of fall, malnutrional stutus, low physical activity, hypertension and glucose uncontrolled. Associated factors with IADL impairments composed advanded age, low educational level, depression, history of fall, malnutrional stutus, low physical activity, and glucose uncontrolled.  Conclusion: Comprehensive geriatrics assessment was necessary to manage and prevent impairment of activities daily living.
