SOME RISK FACTORS IN LOW BIRTH WEIGHT NEONATES AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to identify some risk factors in low birth weight neonates at Thai Nguyen National Hospital in 2021-2022. Subjects and research methods: 123 neonates had birth weight < 2500 grams (patient group) and 246 neonates had birth weight ≥2500gram (control group), who were born at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. A case-control study, in which the disease group and the control group were similar in terms of gender, geography, and mother's occupation. Result: the proportion of male neonates is higher than female neonates in both the disease and control groups, the number of neonates lived in rural areas is higher than neonates who lived in urban areas, and mothers did manual labor more than mental labor. Low birth weight neonates were associated with a number of risk factors such as: mothers had lower secondary education, mothers had height <145cm, mothers had pre-pregnancy weight <45kg, mothers of ethnic minorities, mothers gained <8kg during pregnancy, mother's pathology.
