GLOBAL LONGITUDINAL STRAIN IN END-STAGE RENAL DISEASE PATIENTS

Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to evaluate global longitudinal strain (GLS) by 2D speckle-tracking echocardiography in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients and its correlation factors. Results: 124 ESRD patients were categoried into 2 subgroups: 80 with hemodialysis (HD) and 44 did not. GLS was reduced in both groups, -16,5% ± 4,6 and -16,4% ± 3,6 consequently (p > 0,05). Normal GLS was non-significantly higher in group 1 than in group 2 (35,0% and 22,7%, p > 0,05). In patients with preserved EF, GLS was -18,8% ± 2,7 in group 1, and - 17,6% ± 2,7 in group 2 (p=0,046); with reduced GLS counted for 55,9% in group 2, higher than which in group 1 (30,5%, p=0,016). Multivariate correlation analysis showed hemoglobin was the only independent variable of GLS with coefficient was 0,06 (95%CI: 0,005; 0,11, p<0,05). Conclusion: GLS was reduced in ESRD patients with or without HD. In preserved EF group, the prevalence of reduced GLS in patients without HD higher than which in patient had HD. Hemoglobin concentrate was the independent variable to GLS.
