Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the dental caries status in children under 36 months old over a period of 12 months, from January to December, 2022. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional study on 121 children, between the age of 0 - 36 months old at Nguyen Khe Kindergarten, Dong Anh, Hanoi. Result: The rate of children with dental carries accounted for 71.1%; in which the common age of tooth decay is 24-36 months old (accounting for 82.6%). Only 6.6% of children achieved good oral hygiene, while the proportion of moderate oral hygiene was 24% and poor oral hygiene was 69.4%. The rate of dental carries was highest in the group of children with poor dental hygiene (the difference was statistically significant with p<0.05). The average number of decayed teeth of children is 3.08±3.1 teeth, which is mainly in the upper arch. Conclusions: The incidence of tooth decay was highest in the poor VSRM group, accounting for 98.8%, the highest rate of tooth decay was concentrated in the age group of 24-36 months (82.6%). The group of front teeth is the group that experiences the most decay, especially the group of incisors of the upper jaw. The percentage of children with good oral hygiene is still very low, accounting for 6.6%. The rate of poor oral hygiene is quite high, accounting for 64,9%.
