Abstract

Torsion of the greater omentum is one of the rare causes of acute abdominal pain. It can be primary or secondary. Primary ometal torsion occurs when a portion of the omentum is thickened and mobile around a fixed point in the absence of any associated or secondary  intra-abdominal pathology. Secondary torsion is associated with a number of pre-existing conditions like inguinal hernia, other causes are tumors, internal hernias, foci of intra-abdominal inflammatation, and postsurgical or scarring. Torsion of omentum causes twisting along its long axis resulting in impaired blood supply. This rare disease mainly occurs in middle-aged men. Clinically, omental torsion presents almost as acute appendicitis. Laparoscopic surgery is both diagnostic and therapeutic. we are presenting a case report that treated by laparoscopic surgery and review the literature of this disease.
