Abstract

Objective: Describe and analyze the role of septoplasty in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Methods: A scoping review of the researches that have performedseptoplasty on allergic rhinitis patients, using Pubmed database and Google Scholar. Results: There were 9 studies which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the review. Many tests and questionnaires are used to assess symptom and quality of life improvement after surgery. Clinical, the scales of symptoms and quality of life generally showed good improvement after septoplasty in patients with allergic rhinitis. Patients with allergic rhinitis had less improvement after surgery than the group without allergic rhinitis. Conclusion: The present study suggests that in allergic rhinitis patients with symptomatic deviated nasal septum or in other words septoplasty performed in allergic rhinitis with coexistent deviated nasal septum not only improves the nasal obstruction significantly, but also there is a remarkable improvement in the control of allergic rhinitis following surgery.
