Abstract

Introduction: Many neo vaginoplasty techniques have been developed to date. Among these, the sigmoid colon pedicled flap harvest using laparoscopic-assisted surgery has its advantages, including an easy increase in vaginal length and reduced risk of long-term complications. In Vietnamese literature, there aren’t any report about this technique. Patients and methods:  We reported the results of neo vaginoplasty using sigmoid colon pedicled flap with laparoscopic of the first two patients at Viet Duc Hospital. We evaluated the functional and cosmesis results at 1 month, 3, 6, 9 months postoperatively. Details of sexual activity were also interviewed. Result: None of the patients had signs of vaginal shrinkage, painful spasms during intercourse, foul odor discharge, or spontaneous bleeding from the vagina canal. Laparoscopic surgery scars are only 1 - 2 cm in length. Neovaginal are 12 – 14 cm. Endoscopic examinations showed very good functional and cosmesis results. Conclusion: The essential point of the vaginoplasty is that it should give functional satisfaction and a minimal rate of complications. Based on our experiences and review in literature, the laparoscopic rectosigmoid flap technique of vaginoplasty allowed less morbidity and excellent aesthetic and functional postoperative outcomes.
