GROWTH CHARACTERISTICS OF PREMATURE INFANTS IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS

Abstract
Objective: To assess the physical growth of premature infants in the first 6 months. Subjects and methods: Cohort study of premature infants in Thai Nguyen from birth to 6 months of corrected age. Growth was recorded at 3 months and 6 months of corrected age. Results: In 104 premature infants with gestational age of less than 37 weeks: 48.1% male, 51.9% female. At 3 months of corrected age, the average weight growth, head circumference and length of the children were 4768.35 ± 634.59g, 37.67 ± 1.24 cm and 56.19 ± 1.86 cm, respectively; Cumulative weight gain was 2.6 kg, head circumference increased 7 cm and length increased 12 cm; 44.3% of children caught - up with growth, of which 100% belonged to the group of premature infants with a gestational age of 32 - <37 weeks. At 6 months of corrected age, the average weight growth, head circumference and average length of children were 6860.66 ± 880.96g, 41.25 ± 1.35cm and 63.36 ± 1.72 cm, respectively. Cumulative weight gain was 4.7 kg, head circumference increased 10.5 cm and length increased 19.2 cm; At this time, there were 73.7% of children caught - up with growth, of which 78.2% of children were in the 32 - <37 week group and only 33.3% were in the very preterm group. Conclusion: The physical growth of premature infants is quite good. Moderate and late preterm infants have faster physical growth and earlier catch-up time than those born very preterm
