Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of surgical thread (Catgut 4.0) implantation procedure on patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Subjects and methods: The clinical intervention method, comparing the before and after treatment results. There were 50 patients who were diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis by the diagnostic criteria of the Institute of Welding. American Academy of Otolaryngology (AAO) 2007. The patients were implanted with Catgut sutures at the following points: Phong Tri, Thai Duong, Nghinh Huong, Quyen Lieu, Giap Xa, Khuc Tri, Hop Co, Tuc Tam Ly. The results were evaluated after 3, 7, 10 and 15 days. Results: The improvement of symptoms and quality of life of the patients were evaluated by the SNOT-22 scale. The score of nasal symptoms decreased from 15.36±4.96 points before treatment to 8.58±2.96 points after treatment; The score of ear and face symptoms decreased from 5.3±2.76 points before treatment to 3.16±1.71 points after treatment; The score of signs which were discovered by endoscopy also decreased from 3.04±1.14 points before treatment to 1.98±1.16 points after treatment; The inprovement of symptom and sign scores between before and after treatment was statistically significant, with p < 0.05. Conclusion: Surgical thread (Catgut 4.0) implantation procedure has the efficacy in improving the symptoms and signs of chronic rhinosinusitis patients.
