SITUATION OF DEPRESSION OF THE ELDERLY IN HUONG KHE DISTRICT, HA TINH PROVINCE, VIET NAM

Abstract
Objectives: To describe the rate of depression in the elderly in Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, Viet Nam in 2022 and find out some related factors. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 614 elderly people in Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province by using GDS-30 depression scale carried out from May 2022 to July 2022. Data were collected by direct interview method based on a set of questions including general information on socio-demographic, depression scale (GDS-30). Using the χ2 test to find out some factors related to depression in the elderly. Research results: The rate of depression in the elderly is 46.9%. There is a relationship between the older age (≥70), marital status, conflicts with people around, unsatisfactory spiritual life, low communication habits and depression in the elderly (p<0.05).
