Abstract

Piracetam is a medicine that needs to be taken under the direction of a doctor. This study aims to survey the status of indications for piracetam treatment and investigate drug interactions of piracetam in treatment at the Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat and Maxillofacial Hospital in An Giang province. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from January to June 2021, each subject (outpatient single) only collected information once and did not follow up over time. The results show that: The age of using piracetam is 45-84; Most patients are hospitalized due to vertigo and senile dementia; In the hospital, piracetam is indicated for dizziness and memory loss in old age; Precautions and contraindications; Piracetam is clinically safe; Side effects appear less; Piracetam is consistently indicated in the Pharmacopoeia, Martindale, BNF, Medscape, drugs.com and Nootropil monographs; The hospital adhered to the recommendations of cautions and contraindications for piracetam. Effective use of piracetam is still unclear, so the treating physician should consider when prescribing piracetam to patients.
