Abstract

Introduction: Life satisfaction is the positive self-evaluation of an individual about his/her life. Various factors influence one's life satisfaction, including those of nurses. This study aimed to 1) describe life satisfaction among nursing students and 2) examine the relationship between some selected factors and the life satisfaction of those individuals. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study on 401 Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy nursing students. Life satisfaction was evaluated by the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The questionnaire consisted of 7 items, with the possible score ranging from 0 to 35. The higher score, the greater level of life satisfaction. Findings: the mean life satisfaction score was 22.31 ± 5.74, at the moderate level. The prevalence of students who reported being somewhat satisfied was 32.9%, satisfied was 29.4%, and highly satisfied was 2.2%. In contrast, the percentage of subjects who reported being somewhat dissatisfied was 17.7%, dissatisfied was 9.7%, and highly dissatisfied was 1.2%. Students in RN to BSN program demonstrated higher scores than those in the regular program. There are significant differences in students' life satisfaction scores across the year of study. Senior students reported the highest score. Age was mildly associated with life satisfaction (r = 0,17 p < 0,001). Conclusions: the life satisfaction score of the research subject was at a moderate level. Students in the RN-BSN program and in the fourth year demonstrated a higher level of life satisfaction compared to their counterparts. Age was positively associated with life satisfaction.
