A SURVEY ON READINESS FOR INTERPROFESSIONAL (IPE) LEARNING OF PHAM NGOC THACH UNIVERSITY (PNTU) OF MEDICINE’S STUDENTS

Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization encourages all countries to integrate IPE into the curriculum of Medicine. In Vietnam, PNTU is in the process of implementation IPE in the official curriculumn. Therefore, the objective of this study was to conduct a survey on the readiness for IPE learning of PNTU’s students. Method: A cross-sectional study using the RIPLS questionnaire was conducted on students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing of PNTU. Students’s characteristics and the mean score of the questionnaire were calculated and compared between students of different disciplines by using one-way ANOVA test. Result: A survey of 1,108 students showed a high level of readiness to accept learning IPE in formal curriculumn with an average score of 73.1±9.4. There is a difference in the mean scores of students from different health disciplines (p < 0.001) as well as male versus female students (p = 0.009) for the assessment of “roles and responsibilities”. Conclusion: It is important and necessary to conduct a survey on readiniess for IPE learning of students of different disciplines. When developing an IPE cirriculumn for PNTU, it is necessary to focus on the "roles and responsibilities" aspect of each discipline and make it the focus of teaching for students.
