RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE ABOUT INSULIN PEN AND PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES

Abstract

Background: People with type 2 diabetes who require daily insulin injections will be more susceptible to the most common mental disorders, including emotional disturbances such as stress, anxiety and depression. Knowledge of insulin pens has an impact on stress, anxiety and depression of patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, we conducted the topic "Relation between knowledge of insulin pens and mental disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes". Objective: Investigation of the relationship between knowledge about insulin pens and levels of stress, anxiety and depression of patients with type 2 diabetes. Subjects and methods research: Cross-sectional descriptive analysis on 133 patients who visited the outpatient clinic at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from April 2022 to September 2022. The research tool is the DASS -21 scale. Statistical analysis by chi-square test x2, Fisher's exact test, logistic regression. Results: The percentage of patients with correct knowledge about insulin injectors is 60.15%, and no knowledge is 39.85%. The rates of stress, anxiety and depression of patients according to the DASS-21 scale were 6.77%, 37.59%, and 10.52%, respectively. There is a statistically significant difference between insulin pen knowledge and stress, patients with no knowledge are more stressed than patients with correct knowledge, with p = 0.001. There is a statistically significant difference between insulin pen knowledge and anxiety, patients with no knowledge are more anxious than patients with correct knowledge, with p = 0.001. There is a statistically significant difference between insulin pen knowledge and depression, patients with no knowledge are more depressed than patients with correct knowledge, with p < 0.0001. Conclusion: Patients with correct knowledge about insulin pens accounted for about 60.15%, the proportion of patients suffering from stress, anxiety and depression according to the DASS-21 scale was 6.77%, 37.59%, 10.52%. There is a relationship between insulin pen knowledge and psychiatric disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes
