MANAGEMENT OF LACTATIONAL BREAST ABSCESSES AT NATIONAL HOSPITAL OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY

Abstract
Objectives: Describe the result of surgical incisions of breast abscesses in postpartum women at National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study. Results: While the percentage of patients who had a lateral incision of breast abscesses was 87%, the figure for the incision at the ruptured position of abcesses was only 12,1%. 89,7% of all patients had well-healed scars, and the rate of recurrence was 3,4%. In contrast to 6,9% in patients who complained due to aesthetic reasons, the rate of both sided breastfeeding was 95,7%. The recovery rates were 96,6% and it was related to the duration, the diameters of breast abscesses, and the type of incisions. Conclusion: The percentage of patients who underwent surgical insicion for breast abscesses was high, followed by low percentages of recurrence and patients complaints.
