Abstract

Objectives: Describe knowledge about acute diarrhea caused by Rotavirus among mothers of children aged under one year and its related factors in some communes/wards in Thua Thien Hue province. Research method: a cross-sectional study was performed on 315 mothers with children under one-year-old living in Phu My commune, Phu Vang district and Huong Long ward, Hue city. Data were collected through direct interviews with mothers using the questionnaires. Results: In a survey of 315 mothers, 71.1% of mothers were in the age group of 25-35, 50.8% of mothers were religious, the percentage of mothers with an education from high school or higher was 62.8%, 34.7% of children in Huong Long Ward and 59.1% of children in Phu My Commune received oral Rota vaccine. 40.6% of mothers have good knowledge about rotavirus disease, in which mothers whose children have received the Rotavirus vaccine have good knowledge accounting for 63.3%, higher than the group of mothers who have not given them to their children. The study found a statistically significant relationship between knowledge of Rotavirus disease with the mother's education, vaccination status and the number of children in the family (p<0.01). Conclusion: Mothers with children under 12 months of age have a good knowledge of acute diarrhea caused by Rotavirus 40.6%. The group of mothers whose children received the Rotavirus vaccine had better knowledge than the other group. Therefore, the communication about acute diarrhea caused by Rotavirus needs to be deployed more strongly to contribute to increasing the coverage of the Rotavirus vaccine in children under one-year-old.
