FAMILY SUPPORT IN TAKING CARE OF DIABETES TYPE 2 PATIENTS: SPOUSE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SUPPORTER

Abstract

Informal support provided by family members, especially spouses, plays an important role in diabetes control. This study aims to describem the importance of spousal support for people with type 2 diabetes. The study was carried out by qualitative research methods: applying an extended case study. The research included in-depth interviews with 21 main supporters of people with type 2 diabetes. The most common form of informal support was nutritional support and spiritual support. The article concludes that the spouse is a very important support person who provides multiple forms of support to the person with diabetes.
