Abstract

Background: If diabetes is not well controlled, it can cause many acute and chronic complications, especially complications on the nervous system and blood vessels. Objective: To describe the management status of patients with type 2 diabetes treated as outpatients at Tien Giang General Hospital in 2022. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 380 patients with type 2 diabetes aged 20 years and older who were treated as outpatients, at Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital from January to June 2022. Results: Counseling, communication, and screening for type 2 diabetes at the hospital were fully implemented. The rate of patients with regular check-ups on time was 95.8%, with blood glucose monitoring at home 44.2%. Monotherapy drug treatment activity 35.5%. Blood glucose testing at the prescribed frequency is 97.9%. The rate of patients with co-morbidities of hypertension was 82.6%; dyslipidemia is 75%. Detecting 1 complication is 53.7%, cardiovascular complication is 72.6%. Results of patient management activities: the rate of good results: blood sugar is 48.4%; HbA1c 48.2%; blood pressure 50.8%; Total cholesterol 43.7%; HDL 46.3%; LDL 33.7%; Triglycerides 32.9%. Patients adhere to the 70.5% diet; exercise regimen 68%. The patient's comments on the content of the medical staff's consultation are clear and easy to understand: 77.1%; Satisfaction about medical service quality is 76.6%. Conclusion: The management of patients with type 2 diabetes in outpatient treatment at Tien Giang Provincial General Hospital is well done and full of contents. The results of patient management activities achieved good results and high satisfaction.
