Abstract

Study objectives: Describe the prevalence, severity, and course of platelets of patients with sepsis in the intensive care center. Study subjects: 307 thrombocytopenia patients with sepsis at Bach Mai Hospital's Intensive Care Center from September 2021 to July 2022. Methods: This is a descriptive study. Results: A total of 307 patients were included in the study. Pneumonia was the most common infection (40%). The median duration of thrombocytopenia was 6,4 days. Most patients with moderate and severe thrombocytopenia. Mortality/Severe rates of thrombocytopenia in sepsis/septic shock with DIC were statistically significantly different from those without DIC with OR =3,064, P < 0.05. Conclusion: Thrombocytopenia is common and is associated with worse clinical outcomes. Thus, thrombocytopenia at admission or the onset of septic shock in septic shock patients can be used as an early marker for risk stratification to identify patients at risk of complicated clinical course and increased mortality. Clinicians should be aggressive in diagnosing and treating the cause of thrombocytopenia in septic shock patients in view of their clinical outcome.
