Abstract

Banikha capsule is a combination of medicinal herbs, including Cordyceps, Yeast, Reishi and Red Ginseng. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of Banikha capsules on benign prostatic hyperplasia model in white mice. Subjects and methods: Mice were divided into 5 groups: group 1 was not castrated, injected with olive oil, and given water orally. Groups 2,3,4,5 were castrated, then injected with testoterone propionate at the dose of 10mg/kg b.w/day and given dutasterid at the dose of 2mg/kg/day respectively, Banikha capsules at 2 doses of 1.44 capsules/kg b.w/day and 4.32 capsules/kg b.w/day for 14 days. After that, mice were evaluated for prostate index and histological examination of prostate glands. Results: Banikha capsules at 2 doses of 1.44 tablets/kg/day and 4.32 tablets/kg/day tended to reduce prostate index and improved prostate histopathological images compared to the model group.
