Abstract

Objectives:The evaluate preliminary results of using the lateral supramalleolar flap in the soft tissue reconstruction of ankle and foot defects at Thai Nguyen national hospital. Material and method: From January 2018 to December 2022, 24 flaps were used in the reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the ankle and foot for 24 patients at the Department of Traumatology – Orthopedic. There  were 15 males and 09 females, with an average age of 39 (range 18 to 78) years. The average follow-up time was 30 months. The clinical outcome was assessed by a Self-Designed Tool based on flap survival, coverage of defect, functional activities of daily living. Data were analyzed through SPSS version 20.0. The preliminary Results:  Excellence, has 19/24 cases, accounting for 80%; Good, has 04/24 cases, accounting for 16%; Bad, has 01/24 cases, accounting for 4%. Flaps survived in all cases. All patients had satisfactory functional outcomes without significant morbidity of the donor site. Conclusion: The lateral supramalleolar flap provided coverage to almost all  of the ankle and foot with a cosmetically and  functional acceptable donor and recipient site.
