Abstract

Objective: To identify common infectious causes of lymphocytic meningitis in patients treated at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Population and method: Cross-sectional  descriptive  study  on  144 patients   with   lymphocytic meningitis treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases from 01/2020 to 06/2022. Results: The rate of identified cause was 61.1%. The main cause of lymphocitic meningitis is virus (48.9%, of which Herpes took 28.4%, followed by EV (18.2%) and, Japanese encephalitis (2.3%)) and tuberculosis (38.6%). the rest are other causes (C.neoformans 10.3%, Rickettsia 2.3%). 95.3% of viral etiologies were detected by PCR. Conclusion: Virus and tuberculosis are the two main causes of lymphocytic meningitis. It is necessary to apply the PCR of cerebrospinal fluid to determine the viral etiology of the disease.
