Abstract

Thyroglossal duct carcinoma is uncommon, originating from thyroglossal duct cysts. The Sistrunk operation combined with cervical lymphadenectomy if there is evidence of lymph node metastasis is the main treatment method. The present study reports a 13-year-old boy was referred to our department after noticing a neck swelling. Examination, ultrasound and cytology investigations revealed a large tumor in the hyoid bone which had been present for over six months. The tumor was completely excised, and follow-up, there was no recurrence of the lesion. In this report, the authors present the clinical, histological features of thyroglossal duct carcinoma with review of the literature.
