KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF NURSES ON PRESSURE ULCER PREVENTION IN PATIENTS ON VENTILATORY SUPPORT

Abstract

Knowledge, attitude, and practice of nurses regarding the prevention of pressure ulcers in ventilator patients are essential for effectively managing this condition. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine percentages of nurses with the correct knowledge, attitude, and practice on pressure ulcer prevention in mechanically ventilated patients at Dong Thap General Hospital. The relationships among knowledge, attitudes, and practices, and among these three domains and related factors, were also determined. Sixty nurses who took care of mechanically ventilated patients were recruited, and the percentages of nurses with the correct knowledge, attitude, and practice on pressure ulcer prevention were 76.7%, 21.7%, and 30%, respectively. This result showed that only the knowledge of nurses reached the desired level. There was a relationship between knowledge and faculty of work, time to attend classes about pressure ulcers, and time to read articles related to pressure ulcers. The correct practice was related to working places. It was not found the relationships among knowledge, attitudes, and practices.
