RISK FACTORS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DURING PREGNANCY IN MARRIED WOMEN: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY IN PHU NINH DISTRICT, QUANG NAM PROVINCE

Abstract

Background: Pregnant women are vulnerable group, with rates of abuse by a husband or partner during pregnancy, ranging from 4% to 28%. Violence during pregnancy not only affects the health of a woman, but also has a negative effect on the health of the baby and the child's development. Objective: To identify factors related to violence during pregnancy among married women in Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 350 married women in Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province from 7/2018 to 12/2018. Results: The rate of violence in pregnant women was 24.9%. Factors was linked to violence among women during pregnancy: women's education and occupation, economic status, economic dependence on the husband, lives with partner, number of pregnancies, fetal sex expectations (p <0.05). Conclusion: The rate of violence among women during pregnancy is quite high. The urgent need is to develop reproductive health care programs at health facilities at all levels to focus on early screening of abused women, espectially at the first prenatal visit.
