Abstract

Improving the quality of life is an important goal in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There are many tools to assess the quality of life in COPD patients, but the VQ11 questionnaire is considered valuable and reliable in clinical practice. Objectives: To determine the validity and reliability of the Vietnamese version of the VQ11 questionnaire on COPD patients in HCMC. Subjects and methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 41 COPD patients participated in the first visit and 35 visited twice  10-14 days apart at the University Medical Center in Ho Chi Minh City. Results: The VQ11 questionnaire has a high Content Validity Index (95.7%),  high validity with the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of the entire question being 0.916 in which all questions have the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient greater than 0.9. The reliability of the questionnaire based on determining the ICC (Internal Correlation coefficient) test-retest stability is 0.78, in which the stability in the functional and the social relationship domains are better than in the psychological domain. Conclusion: The Vietnamese version of the VQ11 questionnaire is a valuable and reliable tool to measure the quality of life of COPD patients in Vietnam.
