Abstract

Study aim: 1. Evaluation of  epidemiology, clinic and para clinic feature of colon diverticulitis. 2. The proportion of colon diverticulitis (The proportion of distribution of diverticulitis in right colon, left and sigmoid colon). Patient and method: +Retrospetive study. +Time 2008-2013. +Result: 81 patients, male 60,5%, female 39,5%, mean age: 45,14±18,5 years (range 16-93 Y), Urban area 65,4%,rural 34,6%; Occupation: intellecture: 48,2%, farmer 18,5%, others 33,3%. Symtoms: abdominal pain in right lower quadrant 77,8%, pain in left lower quadrant 9,9%, pain diffuse in 3,7%. No fever in 49,4%, fever <= 38º in 32,1%, fever > 38º in 18,5%. Leucocyte Elevation in 76,6%. Abdominal CT Scan performed in 68 patients,detected diverticulitis in 85,3%. The distribution: right colon diverrticulitis 77,8%, left colon divverticulitis  9,9%, Combination of diverticulitis right and left colon  12,3%. Surgical management 51,9%, medical 48,1%. Emmergency operation 85,7%. Laparoscopic surgery  61,9%. Conclusion: 1. Epidemiology of colon diverticulitis: mean age: 45,14±18,5 years (range 16-93 Y), male 60,5%, female 39,5%. Occupation: intellecture 48,2%,  Farmer 18,5%,other  33,3%. Age group <40: 49,3%, >80 Years 2,5%. Mean age of the right colon diverticulitis 39,62±15,14 Y; Left colon diverticulitis  70,9±16,78 Y. 2. Clinic and paraclinic feature: + Abdominal pain: Pain in right lower quadrant  77,8%, right upper quadrant  8,6%, left lower quadrant  9,9%, left upper quadrant  1,2%, epigastric  2,5%, pain diffuse 3,7%. ++Pain duration: The average duration of right diverticulis 2,33±1,92 days; left group 3,60±2,17 days (P=0,049). ++ Fever: 50,6% of patients, Average Tº 38,06±0,6º C.Temperature of right group: 37,93 ±0,52º; Left group 3,6±2,17 (P=0,004). + Leucocyte elevation: 76,6%, mean parametre 12,800±3790/mm3. + CTscan: Performed in 68 patients, detected diverticulitis in 85,3%. + Diverticulitis distribution: ++ Right colon disverticulilis  77,8%. Left colon diverticulitis  12,3%. Combination of right - left diverticulitis 9,9%. + The age group diverticulitis: ++ Right diverticukitis: The highest proportion of righ colon diverticulitis was age of 21-40 years old: 52,4%; age of 41-60 Y 28,6%, age of 61-80 Y 12,75%; > 80 Y No patient. ++ Left diverticulits: Age of 61-80 Y: Highest proportion 60,0%, > 80 Y 20,0%. ++ Combination right and left diverticulitis Highest proportion: age of 61-80 Y (50,0%), No patient > 80 Y had diverticulis. +The management: ++Surgical management 51,9%, medical 48,1%. ++Emergency surgery 85,7%, elective 14,3%.
