Abstract

Objective: To describe the pregnancy characteristics of women giving birth 4000 grams at Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital according to the following factors: epidemiology, nutritional characteristics and weight gain during pregnancy, pathology during pregnancy. Methods: A descriptive study of a series of 122 women who gave birth to babies ³4000 grams at the obstetrics department at Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital from August 2021 to April 2022. Results: Mean age of pregnant women 31.01±0.62. Gestational diabetes was present in 72.2% of pregnant women and 58.2% was obese. In which, women with poor blood sugar control accounted for 87.6% and excessive weight gain was 75.4%. The average weight of newborns is 4144.26 ± 203.8 grams, the heaviest is 4900 grams. The pregnancy outcome of women giving birth to a large baby: cesarean section accounted for 65.6%, postpartum hemorrhage accounted for 7.4%, infants with Apgar score less than 7 points accounted for 16.4%, Children in need of neonatal resuscitation accounted for 16.4%. Conclusion: Women with pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity, gestational diabetes, and excessive weight gain during pregnancy should be warned about the risk of having a BIG baby.
