KNOWLEDGE OF PEOPLE IN HUE CITY ABOUT SOME NONCOMMUNICABLE DISEASES (NCDs) AND RELATED FACTORS

Abstract

Background: The study aims to explore the knowledge of people in Hue City about some noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and related factors. Subject and research method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 400 people aged 18 years and older in Hue city. Results: 89.7% of study population had satisfactory knowledge about hypertension; 10.3% of study population failed to satisfy the knowledge about hypertension. 85.5% of study population had satisfactory knowledge about diabetes; 14.5% of study population failed to satisfy the knowledge about diabetes. The percentage of study population with satisfactory knowledge about hypercholesterolemia was 84.5%; The percentage of study population with failed knowledge about hypercholesterolemia was 15.5%. Qualifications, occupation and self-measuring blood pressure by the study population or being measured by healthcare workers are factors related to knowledge about hypertension. The qualifications, occupation and being tested by the healthcare workers or self-testing blood sugar by the study population are factors related to the study subjects' knowledge of diabetes. The factors related to knowledge about hypercholesterolemia include Qualifications, occupation and being tested by the healthcare workers for cholesterol levels. Conclusions: It is necessary to maintain and promote communication and propaganda on risk factors and prevention factors for NCDs such as hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.
