Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing worldwide, causing an economic burden for patients and the Social health insurance scheme. Objective: The study was conducted at the Health Center of Bac Ninh City to analyze outpatient treatment costs and related factors in the treatment of T2D. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted by direct interviews and retrospectively reviewing the medical charge record of 110 patients from January to December 2022. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Patients had to pay an average of 6,247,685.5 VND/year for the total outpatient treatment costs for T2D. Direct medical costs accounted for the largest proportion of the total costs (86.73%), with the highest proportion being for medication and functional foods. The length of time the patient had the disease had the most significant impact on treatment costs. Conclusion: There is a association between age, gender, duration of illness, comorbidities, complications, and outpatient treatment costs for T2D. No difference in costs was found between insulin users and non-users.
