Abstract

Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics of gingivitis in patients wearing orthodontic braces at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in 2022. Subjects and methods: Convenient sampling of 62 patients wearing orthodontic braces both on 2 jaw at least 3 months before participating in the study was diagnosed with gingivitis with symptoms: red, swollen, bleeding gums when being examined from June 2022 to December 2022 at the Department of Odonto-Stomatology, Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Results: Majority of patients had moderate gingivitis (69.4%) and mild gingivitis (30.6%). The degree of gingivitis at the age of < 18 years old is more severe than that of the age group > 18 years old. In patients wearing orthodontic braces, gingivitis is related to the number of tooth brushings per day and the time of the most recent periodic tartar removal. Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen instructions on oral care and hygiene of patients wearing braces before and during treatment.
