Abstract

Purpose: Total disc replacement – ​​is also given to overcome the complications associated with long-term lumbar spinal vertebrae surgery. Methods: The patient was replaced with a total disc at the Department of Spinal Surgery of Viet Duc University Hospital from 2013 so far and was followed up with the shortest period of 3 months and the longest 5 years. Evaluation according to the lumbar spine pain scale (VAS), VAS spread leg pain, the scale of Owestry lumbar spinal function assessment before surgery, after surgery and upon re-examination. Evaluation of postoperative results and re-examination on X-ray and MRI. Results: There were 20 total disc replacements, of which 19 were L5S1, 1 L45. All patients received 1 disc replacement, including 11 female patients and 9 male patients. VAS back before surgery 7,2 ± 1,7, after surgery 2,6 ± 0,8. VAS leg before surgery was 6,5 ± 1,8, after surgery 2,3 ± 0,9. Owestry before surgery 39,5 ± 8,5, after surgery 17 ± 4,7. All patients re-examined the artificial disc was good, and did not change position. The MRI film after re-examination of the discs were all removed without compression. Conclusion: Total disc replacement has initially brought good results, however, longer studies are needed to assess the advantages, disadvantages as well as their results in the future.
