TRANSORAL ROBOTIC THYROIDECTOMY VESTIBULAR APPROACH FOR PAPILLARY THYROID CARCINOMA: A REPORT OF THE FIRST CASE IN VIETNAM

Abstract

Transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) is a new technique in thyroid surgery that has many advantages because combination of transoral approach and robot da Vinci Xi surgical system. Herein, we report the first case of papillary thyroid cancer with cT1aN0M0 performing successfully transoral robotic thyroidectomy by using the da Vinci Xi surgical system. The operation times was 170 minutes with the working space creation time, docking time and console time were 30 minutes, 30 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively. The patient did not undergo conversion to open transcervical thyroidectomy and was discharged 5 days after surgery without any complications. The patient was completely satisfied with the cosmetic result. In this report, we describe the first successful use of TORT for treating papillary thyroid cancer in Vietnam. This case has marked an important milestone in the development of thyroid surgery not only at K Hospital but also in Vietnam.
