Abstract

Objective: Describe the knowledge and practice of nurses about safe injections at Vinmec Times City International Hospital in 2020 and analyze some factors related to nurses' safe injections. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive study on 40 nurses of Vinmec Times City International Hospital and a survey of 308 injection practice sessions at Vinmec Times City International Hospital from May to August 2020. Results: The rate of correct answers about the purpose of the injection is 75.0%, about the safe injection is 97.5%. Knowledge about anaphylaxis related to injections had 67.5% correct answers. Regarding drug testing and patients before infusion, correct answers reached 87.5%. Regarding preparation of anti-shock drugs and injection equipment, they met the requirements. each criterion: 87.5% answered correctly. For the guaranteed standards of puncture-resistant containers for sharps, 60.0% answered correctly. The correct response rate on the sealing standard of sharps containers is 65.0%. Regarding preparation of injections, 45.0% answered correctly. Test the knowledge of waste treatment after injection: handling needles and syringes after injection with 87.5% correct answers. Criterion of 5 correct performance of health workers reached a high rate of 86.0%; achievement criteria on the use of personal protective equipment reached 97.7%. The percentage of medical staff who classify waste after injection in accordance with regulations reached 96.1%. The rate of correct implementation of hand hygiene technique after completing the process is 79.2%. Summary of knowledge on safe injection: 67.8% of health workers passed and 23.1% did not. Practical skills met the criteria for safe injection with the rate of 88.4%, while the rate of failure was 11.6%. Conclusions: Injections play a very important role not only affecting medical staff but also affecting the treatment outcome of patients. Research on safe injection administration will help healthcare professionals improve the safety of their patients and themselves. Nurses at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital understand a high percentage of safe injections and correctly practice safe injections.
