Abstract

Objective: To describe the radiographic characteristics of a group of patients aged 4-8 years with deciduous teeth indicated for pulpotomy. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 173 children aged 4-8 years with deep caries in primary teeth indicated for pulpotomy. The children underwent clinical examination and radiographic evaluation to assess the extent of caries and the condition of the surrounding tissues. Result: Most of the teeth had lesions at stage 2, but up to 28.0% of tooth 85 and 25.0% of tooth 55 had lesions at stage 1. The most common diagnosis based on radiographic evidence of pulp exposure was irreversible pulpitis, which was found in 26.6% of tooth 84, followed by tooth 54 (25.8%) and tooth 55 (10.5%). No teeth with septum syndrome were observed. Conclusion: All teeth with carious lesions that had radiographic evidence of pulp exposure were diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis or pulp necrosis. The incidence of pulp necrosis with and without periapical pathosis was higher in the mandibular primary teeth than in the maxillary primary teeth.
