CHILDCARE KNOWLEDGE OF MOTHERS HAVING CHILDREN WITH THALASSEMIA TREATED AT THE PEDIATRICS DEPARTMENT, UONG BI VIETNAM – SWEDEN HOSPITAL IN 2022

Abstract
Introduction: Thalassemia is a chronic disease that requires lifelong treatment and care. The outcome of the treatment is highly dependent on the knowledge of the parents. Objectives: Describe the current state of childcare knowledge of mothers having children with Thalassemia treated at the Pediatrics Department, Uong Bi Vietnam – Sweden Hospital in 2022. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 60 mothers with children having Thalassemia being treated at the Pediatrics Department, Uong Bi Vietnam – Sweden Hospital. Results: The study showed that the percentage of mothers with proper knowledge of the etiology was 51.7%, with 55% of mothers having knowledge of caring for children with Thalassemia. The percentage of mothers with proper knowledge about nutrition for children is 56.7%, and Thalasssemia prevention is 65%. Conclusion: The knowledge of Thalassemia prevention among mothers is still deficient, it is necessary to have health education counseling programs to improve the knowledge of mothers.
