Abstract

Introduction: Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is an acute viral infection, with no specific medications and no vaccine for prophylaxis. Mothers’ knowledge of HFMD has been identified as having a particularly important role in child disease prevention. Objectives: Describe the current state of knowledge of prevention of HFMD of mothers with children treated at the Pediatrics Department, Uong Bi Vietnam – Sweden Hospital in 2022. Methods: The study describes a cross-section of 120 mothers with children with TCM who are being treated at the Children's Department of the Uong Bi Vietnam – Sweden hospital. The questionnaire was developed based on the HFMD childcare manual of the Vietnam National Children's Hospital. Results: The study showed that the percentage of mothers with proper knowledge of the infectious tracts of respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts was 41.6% and 16.6%, respectively; the percentage of mothers with proper knowledge of the risk factor "unsecured personal hygiene" accounted for 75%; the percentage of mothers who knew the characteristic sign "Vesicles in the palms, feet, knees, buttocks" was 90%; the percentage of mothers with proper knowledge of disease prevention in the way of "fully feeding children, eating oooked food and drinkingboiled water " was 87.5%. Conclusion: Mothers' knowledge of HFMD is still deficient, health education counseling programs are needed to improve mothers' knowledge.
