THE VALUE OF MULTISLICES COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY IN DIAGNOSIS OF FUNGAL SINUSITIS

Abstract
Purpose: To access the role of multislices computed tomography (MSCT) in the diagnosis of fungal sinusitis. Material and method: Descriptive study on 31 patients who were suspected a fungal sinusitis in clinic, were performed MSCT and were surgery in Hanoi Medical University Hospital from 06/2022 to 12/2022. Result: there were 24 females and 07 males, the mean age is 54.16±12.13. The most commom clinical symptoms are runny nose, account for 93.5%, nasal congestion account for 87.1%, endoscopic nasal discharge in meatus and floor, account for 90.3%. MSCT showed mixed density opacities, account for 100%, thickening of the sinus walls, account for 96.8%, punctate calcifications, account for 80.6%. The accurate diagnosis of MSCT was 83.9% when compared to the pathology and fungal pap test. Compared to the sinus surgery, the sensibility, the specificity and the accurate diagnosis of MSCT to evaluate the sinus locations in which the fungal lesion affected was all 100%. MSCT was limited in the assessment of mucosal invasion. Conclusion: MSCT was a simple, non-invasive and high value method for the diagnosis of fungal sinusitis. MSCT should be recommended on case suspected fungal sinusitis.
