Abstract

Objectives: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, which aims to describe the characteristics of cone-beam computed tomography of mandibular fractures due to traffic accidents and evaluate the relationship between clinical features and fracture morphology. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 76 trauma patients with mandibular fractures due to traffic accidents hospitalized for inpatient treatment diagnosed on routine radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography at Hue Central Hospital from November 2021 to January 2023. Results: Among 76 patients with mandibular fractures, the highest percentage was found in 19-39 years of age (52,9%) with male predominance (89,5%). Motorbike traffic accidents were the most common cause of mandibular fracture (90,8%.) The majority of patients are farmer and fishermen (43,4%). The ratio of film used for diagnosis include Conebeam CT, Panorama (100%); Waters view (57,9%); Lateral view (19,74%). The diagnosis value of CTscan and conventional X-ray in patients with mandibular fractures are 100% and 77,6%, retrospectively. The most common site of mandibular fracture is the chin (45%), followed by the fracture with two lines accounted for 44,7%, asymmetry fracture is mainly (85,3%), the coordinate position of two lines fracture are condylar process and coronoid process (32,4%). No correlations were found between clinical characteristics and morphology fracture. Results: The most common site of mandibular fracture is the chin, the highest percentage of mandibular fracture is for the two fracture lines. The diagnosis is based on clinical characteristics and imaging. X-rays have valuable in diagnosing are Panorama film and Cone beam CT.
