Abstract

Introduction: Children morbidity and mortality patterns of the community play  an inportant role in making an appropriate health care policies. Hatinh is a provinve of the North Central of Vietnam. The question is wheares the children mortality and morbility in Hatinh are different from that other provinces of  Vietnam. To answer this question, this study was conducted to identify the children mortality and morbility patterns at the Hatinh General Hospital between 2011-2019 periods. Study subjectives were included 46 798 profiles of inpatient children who were treated at the  Hatinh General Hospital  during this period. Methods: This was a retrospective, cross- sectional study. Results:  Hospitalised children were accounting for 3.65% of  total inpatients; The model of diseases were  respiratory diseases (47.23%); infections (18.31%), digestive diseases (15.93%). The child and overall mortality rates  were decresed  from 3.79% in 2011 to 0.36% in 2019 and from 0,78% in 2011 to 0,12% in 2019,  respectively.  The rate of children mortality was 57,09% of total mortality. Neonatal  mortality was 73.16% (mostly respiratory failure, infections and preterm babies).  The rate of hospital discharge was 88.82%, referral was 9,81% and mortality was 1.37%. Conclusion: The children mortality and morbility patterns in the Hatinh province are similar to other provinces in Vietnam and reflect the  disease patterns of developing countries.
