IMPACT OF COVID – 19 EPIDEMIC ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF PEOPLE IN TAN PHU DISTRICT – HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract
Introduction: The Covid 19 epidemic not only affected people's physical health but also greatly affected the mental health of people around the world. However, mental health issues are often overlooked, and undiagnosed to provide timely interventions to improve people's quality of life affected by the pandemic. Objective: Determine the mean score of stress caused by Covid on people due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and related factors in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 576 people aged 18 years or older living in Tan Phu district - Ho Chi Minh City. All eligible participants were recruited by the multi-level cluster sampling method and interviewed directly in the prepared questionnaire. The impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on people's mental health was assessed through the CSS scale - the Covid Stress Scale and FcoV – 19S - The Fear of COVID-19 Scale. Results: The mean score of Fear of Covid is 3.17 ± 0.63; The median score of the Stress scale due to Covid is 3.0 (2.4 – 4.3). The study found factors related to Covid stress including age group, gender, people living with, current housing situation, employment problems, comorbid health problems, and fear of Covid (p <0.05). Conclusion: The mean score of Fear of Covid is 3.17 ± 0.63 and the Covid Stress Scale is 3.0 (2.4 – 4.3). It is necessary to take care of the mental health of post-Covid people, especially the elderly, who have difficulties in employment and people with accompanying health problems.
