RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CLINICAL AND IMAGING OF BRAIN STEM INFARCTION OF BASILAR ARTERY SYSTEM

Abstract
Objectives: Analyze the relationship between some clinical features and imaging of brain stem infarction of the basilar artery system. Subjects and methods: We studied 110 patients with cerebral stem infarction of the basilar artery system, who were treated at the Neurology Center - Bach Mai Hospital. Results: Symptoms of quadriplegia and disorder of consciousness (at the onset of the disease), Glasgow score ≤ 13 points, NIHSS score ≥ 10 and quadriplegia (on admission), time of CT scan after 24 hours from the time at the onset of the disease are factors related to the ability to detect lesions on brain CT scan (p<0.05). Symptoms on admission with Glasgow score ≤ 13, NIHSS score ≥ 10, quadriplegia, oculomotor nerve palsy, pharyngeal paralysis, convulsions, are factors associated with lesions in basilar artery occlusion (p<0.05). The multivariate regression analysis showed that symptoms of pharyngeal paralysis and Glasgow score on admission ≤13 points were independently associated with basilar artery occlusion (p<0.05) with corresponding OR: 9,891 (1,301-75,190) and 4,266 (1,145-15,892). Conclusion: The consciousness disorder on admission, pharyngeal paralysis and ophthalmoplegia are related to cerebral stem infarction due to occlusion and stenosis of basilar artery.
