Abstract

Inproper use of antibiotics that is quite poular in Vietnam exerts various health risks to users and their community. Different scienticfic evidences reveal key role of people’s knowledge and attitudes towards their practices. Hence, this research was carried out to assess knowledge and attitudes about antibiotics use among people living in Thuong Thanh ward, Long Bien district (Hanoi) and associated factors. A cross-sectional study was implemented with 384 households in the research site. A questionnaire concluding 15 questions evaluating their knowledge and 12 ones accessing their attitudes was used. The results showed that >97% of participants knew that antibiotics use and purchase should be complied with doctors’ guide, though only 56,5% of those had right answer about the time to use doctors’ description and 64,3% was awared of antibiotics is used for bacteria. Overall, 28.6% had poor knowledge. About attitudes, a number of participants demonstrated their poor interest in relevant information, poorly trusted in the importance and benefits of proper use of antibiotics; many people did not want to participate in related interventions. Generally, up to 40,9% of respondents showing their poor attitudes towards antibiotics use. While people’ sex, age, educational level and occupation were statistically associated with their overall knowledge, their education and occupation were statistically associated with their overall attitude (p<0,05).
