KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE ABOUT PREMARITAL HEALTH COUNSELING AND EXAMINATION OF SENIOR STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY AT HO CHI MINH CITY IN 2021

Abstract

Background: The senior students of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City are going to be medical staff who provide health services and disease prevention communication to the community and at the same time, they are close to the average age of marriage in Viet Nam, so it is possible to enter married life at any time. Therefore, it is necessary to better understand knowledge and attitude about counseling and medical examination. Objective: To determine the percentage of senior students who were knowledgeable and good attitude about premarital health counseling and examination and some related factors at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 2021. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study, was conducted on final-year students at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in 2021, from April 2021 to May 2021, with a convenient sampling method. Surveyed with a pre-prepared self-completed questionnaire to collect information on social characteristics, knowledge, and attitudes about premarital health counseling and examination. Results: The percentage of students with correct knowledge about premarital health counseling and examination is 75.2%, and the overall good attitude of students is 81.6%. There are 81.9% of students know the information about counseling and medical examination. Finding the relationship between academic ability, mother's education level, information knowledge with correct general knowledge, and attitude about premarital health counseling and examination. Conclusion: The results of the study show that students with good knowledge will have a positive attitude about premarital health counseling and examination, the knowledge and attitude of students are quite high, although many students still do not know the full information, especially the object of counseling and medical examination.
